Ben Madsen is a bounty hunter. No, he's not ashamed to admit it. He likes his job. Mostly. When a big payday turns out to be stranger than he could have imagined, Madsen is swept up into an otherworldly conspiracy right here on Earth.
Ben Madsen is a bounty hunter. No, he's not ashamed to admit it. He likes his job. Mostly. When a big payday turns out to be stranger than he could have imagined, Madsen is swept up into an otherworldly conspiracy right here on Earth.
Tasked with capturing the most wanted fugitive in the universe, Ben Madsen (from Arcadia, California) must track his mark through a city filled with dangerous aliens (definitely not from Arcadia, California)—right here on Earth.
Out of options, Madsen descends into the city of Lustrum, deep beneath the Alaskan tundra. First up: Find his contact, Chris Cancel. Or make enough noise that Cancel finds him. Next: Find his perp. Cancel has a plan. All they have to do is free a friend from one dangerous Ward, who should be able to get them into the next dangerous Ward. Simple enough.
Abandoned at the Midnight Gates, facing a wall of armed aliens, Madsen does what he does best: He takes a running leap off something tall. This time into a river...of acid. Washing ashore in an even stranger ward, Madsen receives help from a gang of orphans. They take him to their guardian, The Malady. With a name like that, what could go wrong?
Deep in the jungle of the Blue Sun Ward, Madsen finds his mark. But he doesn’t look so good. In order to get out of Lustrum in (mostly) one piece, Madsen will have to keep the dangerous fugitive Nyx alive, if only for another day. Meanwhile, a certain baton-wielding assassin catches some rays beneath the Black Sun.
After Sullivan broadcasts a message throughout Lustrum, an angry mob marches on the Midnight Gates. Beneath the Black Sun, Madsen squares off with Moros...until the walls around them begin to crumble.
