**Chapter 1: "Awakening" — Synopsis**
Troy wakes with his skull on fire and gold burning behind his eyes. Whatever is clawing its way out of him doesn't care that he has a life, a home, a woman who holds him through it. Sarah's moon magic can drag him back from the edge — but every night the edge gets closer, and her books have no name for what he is becoming.
So she calls Silver Wolf. The old shaman listens to Troy's "dreams" — the dead moon, the shadows that watch, the voice whispering his name — and tells him the thing he doesn't want to hear: *that's not a dream. That's a summons.*
One touch of the moon-marked seal and the vision takes him: a city in ruins, a Gate torn open, a burning guardian screaming *YOU WILL NOT PASS* at the shrieking dark. And always, behind everything, the ash-skull with furnace eyes — the thing that feeds on his rage, that grows fat every time he loses control. The thing that was never summoned through the Gate.
It was born here. Born from *him*.
"Some wounds scar the body," Silver Wolf says. "Others scar the spirit. And sometimes... those scars learn how to breathe."
Then the seal starts beating like a heart — and the old man's face goes white. The Gate was never built to keep something out.
It was built to keep something **in**.
The Gate has opened. Something answered.
