When the strangers are admitted through the gates, the soldiers discover an impossible truth: they are elves—the legendary Firstborn, unseen in Paendin for nearly ten thousand years.
Their arrival recalls an age when magic answered readily to the elves and their lives stretched across centuries. But the Firstborn vanished through ancient portals long ago, leaving Paendin’s magic to slowly diminish. Now, their unexpected return raises a far more troubling question: why have they come back?
