Description
My name is Jake Scholl. I have 16 years in the writing and publishing field. (Was published for the first time in 2008 in a short story/poetry anthology that is long out of print.) My first comic "The Cave" (Published by Idaho Comics Group) appeared in Tarzan & the Comics of Idaho #2, and my second, a Cyberpunk comic called "Bl00d 4ortun3" (Published by defunct publisher Mystery House Comics) in 6x6: Fortune. (View the scripts here) My first novel, Blade of the Broken, was published in 2014. I also have two blogs: The Writer on Wheels and Goblins. Swords. Elves. Oh My!As an Editor, I cut my teeth as the Editor of my High School Newspaper for three years, and two of those years editing on Yearbook as well. Spent three years as a member of the famous online critique group called Critters, (Notorious perhaps?) learning on the fly the art of Constructive Criticism and giving critiques/ looking for grammar and spelling errors on various forums. And spent time writing book reviews on one of my blogs from '09 on. Started offering paid editing services in June 2023. (Editing Portfolio here. No Hook for the Hood has been published.)
Comic Book Writer inspirations include Dennis O'Neil, Chris Claremont, Frank Miller, Pat Mills, John Wagner, Garth Ennis, Alan Moore, Mark Waid, Kevin Eastman and too many others.
Send me a message, and let's make a deal. Looking forward to working with you!
I accept PayPal, Venmo, Stripe, Klarna, or I can send a Zoho Invoice. Payment can either be prior, in installments, or after your Kickstarter/Zoop/IndieGoGo or other crowdfunding campaign is complete.

Professional Career Skill
Includes the last year and High School Newspaper and Yearbook experiences. While I have mainly edited prose, I have studied over the years almost religiously what Comic Scripts should look like to get the best results from the artist. Also, well-read in Eisner's books on Sequential Art, and McCloud's Understanding Comics series.
Combine that with my knowledge of Strunk & White, and the Chicago Manual of style, I'm ready for anything you throw at me.

My very first publication was a short story published in 2008. Couple other stories, comics, a novel, and countless blog posts in the years after. Before I started writing prose, I wanted to be a Comic Book Artist, but by the age of 13 I realized I did not have that aptitude, despite being able to think visually. Took a break from comics for a bit to keep the heartbreak at bay.
I knew comics writers existed; however, I knew nothing about how to write scripts until I found a copy of The DC Guide to Writing Comics by Dennis O'Neil (Batman, The Question, Green Arrow/Green Lantern) when I was 15. (Thanks, Denny, for saving my comics dream!) First comics gig was in 2015, second was in 2017... I miss the process, and am itching to write something either for you, or with you. Rates
*These rates are not set in stone; everything is up for negotiation. Don't be afraid to make me an offer! Will consider any offer. Two rewrites at no extra charge.
Low to Mid: For those who already have a story, characters and a setting and needs a writer to bring it all into a script. All ideas I have are run by you. The number of pages you want written, how much worldbuilding, characterization, and plot you need me to do determines the per page price.
Mid to High: For those who want an original script from me, featuring their characters, setting, or my own. And if you're an artist that wants to work with me on a joint creation that we would co-own, this is your tier. The number of pages you want written, and whether or not it's 100% my creation or a collaborative determines the per page price.
I accept PayPal, Venmo, Stripe, or Credit/Debit/Apple Pay through QuickBooks. (I don't mind being paid in installments. And a couple copies of the book I can sell would be nice too if you're feeling generous)
