Description
Hello people. I’ve written a completed 138,000-word dark fantasy novel called Rise of Aether, and I’m looking for a manga artist/co-creator interested in adapting it with me.Anime and manga have become a massive interest of mine, and rather than creating a completely separate story, I want to adapt the actual novel into manga form and eventually submit it to KADOKAWA WORLD MANGA in Japan. If you’re interested, send me some examples of your sequential/manga work and we can have a chat. I will paste the synopsis, and if you like it I can send the manuscript privately as I cant attach files. Then you can judge before we commit to anything together.
I don't have a preference for the art at all, just that it flows beautifully from page to page whilst capturing the narrative and characters well. I would like to have a chat with anyone interested, view your work and then build a sample of 10 pages or so (Kodokawa require 16–60 completed pages, while their ongoing portfolio review can accept storyboards if they’re accompanied by finished art samples)
The initial goal would be to develop a manga pilot based directly on the opening of Rise of Aether, with the intention of submitting it to Japanese publishers and KADOKAWA’s international manga programme.
If it works, I’m looking for someone who could potentially build this world with me for years rather than simply complete one short project.
Enjoy your day
Sean
Elevator Pitch
A dark tale of jealous gods and betrayed relicts who systematically destroy humanity in a series of savage cullings to prevent each other from ever truly prospering. While those who are deemed evil orchestrators of this suffering, may be the only salvation for human kind.
Short Synopsis
Jotunn raiders capture PRINCESS ISABELLA of Vanir while she travels in disguise to Jotunn for leisure. Already betrothed to the Alnaari crown, her disappearance threatens an arranged marriage intended to unite the continent's two superpowers. Meanwhile, a mysterious magical explosion strikes the Alcazar, killing the queen of Alnaar and narrowly missing KING BASHIR. In Vanir, miners are dying after exposure to a strange mineral.
Isabella's captors, HENIK and DIRK, bring her to the Jotunn rebellion. HUGO METTERN demands her execution, but the raiders refuse and flee with her to Alnaar. Isabella begins having visions of the past and future, eventually realising that her older, dreamwalking self provided the information that led to her own capture. The reason currently not disclosed.
Bashir investigates the Alcazar attack, blamed on a Jotunn extremist from a kingdom long oppressed by Alnaar. He sends envoys to Vanir to investigate Isabella's disappearance. There, a boy named AIDAN has survived exposure to the mysterious substance, now called aether, and is being studied by the court mage, SELENE.
When grief triggers another explosion of aether in Selene's tower, the Alnaari envoys witness it and suspect a link to the Alcazar attack. One envoy is then murdered by a figure wielding black flame. Pools of aether are also discovered in Alnaar's deserts, leaving both kingdoms suspicious of the other's intentions.
The royal treasurer, CARMINO, closes mines containing aether, causing hunger and unrest. He is framed for selling the substance abroad and stripped of authority, allowing the military to take control. He uncovers proof of his innocence but is murdered. KING MALVERIS also dies from an unexplained illness, leaving his inexperienced son, CAELAN, to rule Vanir.
As Hugo rallies Jotunn nobles against Alnaari oppression, Bashir mobilises his army but forbids an invasion. His elven general, MEMNON, orders troops across the Dafai Strait against his wishes. Jotunn rebels ambush them, starting a continental war.
Unknown to the kingdoms, Memnon and his sister MARINAH have orchestrated the conflict. Marinah engineered the explosion, Carmino's framing and murder, Malveris's illness and the envoy's assassination. Both know the war is part of the gods' culling cycle and intend to restore the elven race through humanity's downfall. Long ago, the Relicts created life from their essence; the gods dissolved them into aether for fearing the Relicts power and now destroy civilisations to prevent their consciousness reforming. Isabella's visions are preparing her to inherit Marinah's role, while Aidan's survival will become central to the greater conflict.Short Synopsis
