A team of Mexicans and Mexican Americans known as "The Thirteen" (La Trecena). These individuals, called "chispas" (Spanish for "sparks"), discover extraordinary powers rooted in Mesoamerican lore on their eighteenth birthdays, which occur over a two-week period. Recruited by the enigmatic Father Tonal with full scholarships to Guadalupe College, they train to unite as a team to confront a looming threat
