One man’s story of turning blood, sweat, and tears into a successful living—literally! After his untimely death as the hardest-working salary man in Japan, Luciel is reincarnated into the magical fantasy world Galdardia. Always the man with a plan, he recreates himself to be a healer, and sets about making his way in the world. But while Luciel knows a thing or two about making money, he knows absolutely nothing about Galdardia. Will his good heart and great work ethic be enough to make him…The Great Cleric?
Recently reincarnated ex-salaryman Luciel is determined to make his new lease on life in the world of Galdardia a long and peaceful one. His efforts to learn basic healing magic may have paid off sooner than he thought, but the easy road looks to be long gone. Between gulping down the ominous Substance X, healing fledgling adventurers, and surviving Brod’s strict training regimen, could Luciel’s gluttony for punishment be his undoing?!
Through much trial and tribulation, Luciel has finally started to make a name for himself in Merratoni as a novice healer who cares more about the wellbeing of his clients than the weight of their purses. Now officially employed by the Adventurers’ Guild, the reincarnated salaryman is determined to continue his training. Little does he realize his generosity with healing has painted a target on his back!
Luciel’s kind heart and even kinder healing prices put him in the sights of Merratoni’s most expensive cleric—Bottaculli. Though Luciel manages to avoid any physical altercations, that doesn’t stop Bottaculli from using backdoor methods to reclaim his lost revenue. With his time in the idyllic city of Merratoni forcibly run out, Luciel must set off for his new assignment in the holy city of Shurule, where his latest task will be unlike anything he’s ever faced…
Luciel has made fast progress in his new role as Exorcist thanks to all the training he had already done with Brod. As he continues making his way through the underground Labyrinth, he’d like to take his training even further, provided it doesn’t interfere with his duties. Lumina conveniently offers to help, but her proposal isn’t quite what Luciel expected—
Luciel has reached the thirtieth floor of the underground labyrinth. But when Cattleya sees him thriving despite his dangerous mission, she begins to suspect he may be taking strange drugs…which rings one very smelly bell in Luciel’s mind: Substance X! Will its secrets finally be revealed?!
Luciel is finally ready to challenge the fortieth floor, but despite his best preparations, things take an unexpected turn after the fight is over. Mysteriously trapped inside the Labyrinth, Luciel endures a grueling six months in the hopes of returning to the surface. Meanwhile, Cattleya and the adventurers fear for the safety of their missing friend—so much so that some familiar faces from Merratoni show up demanding answers.
Having attained the rank of S-Class Healer, Luciel reads an account of the life of Healers’ Guild founder Lord Reinstar. And yet, each page he reads only leaves him more startled at the differences between himself and the legendary figure. What’s more, the gears of fate keep edging him toward a fateful reunion with none other than the wicked healer Bottaculli…
Ordered by the Pope to study at the clinic of his old enemy Bottaculli, Luciel returns to Merratoni. But their fateful reunion takes a turn when one of Bottaculli’s slaves mysteriously breaks the restraints of his curse and rebels. Luciel saves the wicked healer’s life and learns that the corruption plaguing this world reaches farther than he thought. Even the “freedom” boasted by the Independent City-State of Yenice seems to be for appearances only…
Reconstruction of the Yenice Healers’ Guild is finally underway thanks to the help of the guild’s new, unusually skilled slaves, and Luciel is eager to rebuild the healers’ reputation. But at every turn, he finds himself face-to-face with Yenice Representative Sharzah, who doesn’t exactly like him. With enemies lurking in the shadows and multiple parties out to get them, Luciel’s plans might not go as smoothly as he hoped. Luckily, he has the power of Substance X on his side.
With the help of the Adventurers’ Guild, Luciel uncovers the mastermind behind the attack on the healers. And, once again, it seems as though fate is pushing him towards the newly-awakened Labyrinth—the source of all Yenice’s recent troubles. Luciel and his allies venture into the Labyrinth, but strength alone won’t be enough to make it through this time. If they want to leave the Labyrinth alive, they’ll need to work together, get creative, and fight with some “substantial eXperimentation.”
Luciel and friends rush into the labyrinth after Sharzah, but when they finally catch up to him they’re confronted by a mighty red dragon, as well. Backed into a corner and unable to retreat, Luciel makes a daring move and fends off the dragon with…Substance X, of course! Having proved himself in the face of not only corruption, but a dragon as well, Luciel is hailed as the city-state’s dragon-slaying hero and asked to become their new leader. He agrees to a limited term of one year, but there’s a lot to be done if he plans on making Yenice into a truly “free and equal” state…
The Great Water Spirit told Luciel and friends to head for the Bee-race colony, but a giant slime has filled the area with miasma. Can Luciel’s party successfully meet with the Bee-race?!
Someone has been dipping into the Yenice national coffers. Luciel needs to investigate who it was, but that’s not his only problem. And amid all the tumult, the slums are finally on the verge of being reborn.
