Episode 1
A Burning Beginning - Page 1
Welcome to the Fantasy Book Club, where reality-denying liars come to hang out... at least according to Fiona. Hope you enjoy your stay. *note* I am currently in the process of updating some of the art in the first chapter. I'm not redoing everything, just a few panels here and there to be closer to my current style.
Episode 2
A Burning Beginning - Page 2
The disappointment I'm sure many young librarians felt when they realized they actually have to talk to people...
Episode 3
A Burning Beginning - Pages 3 & 4
For anyone who has worked customer service, or still does... I'm sorry for any flashbacks this may have caused. Also: Bad slime is bad...
Episode 4
A Burning Beginning - Page 5
Seriously... Does nobody see that slime?
Episode 5
A Burning Beginning - Page 6
There was a girl in school who was constantly checking out the books I wanted to read. If I was on a waiting list it was because of her. For a while there, it was uncertain if we were going to become friends because of it... or enemies. /rant
Episode 6
A Burning Beginning - Page 7
Totally normal flashbacks, I'm sure.
Episode 7
A Burning Beginning - Page 8
Well, that is one of the last places you want slime.
Episode 8
A Burning Beginning - Page 9
I also haven't punched anyone in months so I understand why Fiona is so proud of herself.
Episode 9
A Burning Beginning - Page 10
FINALLY!! I've been waiting for Eremis to show up and be able to see the slime for 10 pages!
Episode 10
A Burning Beginning - Page 11
Cursed! Don't make Eremis repeat herself.
Episode 11
A Burning Beginning - Page 12
Read a book, they said. What could go wrong, they said.
Episode 12
A Burning Beginning - Pages 13-14
It's a double update! Since this was originally formatted as a comic book page spread I decided to put this entire segment together. Hope you enjoy!
This illuminated manuscript appears to have a slime problem... I have a mild obsession with 13th-century illustrations so I did a ton of research for these two pages. The way monsters especially were portrayed in them is absolutely fascinating to me.
Episode 13
A Burning Beginning - Page 15
For those wondering... Yes, I did put a lot of time and effort into designing the Standish house knowing full well I was going to blow it up halfway through the first issue. Did it break my heart? Yes. Was it fun as hell to do? Also, Yes.
Episode 14
A Burning Beginning - Page 16
Get yourself a friend who when you tell them you have magic powers their response is "Ok, but how work?!?". Drew. Get yourself a friend like Drew.
Episode 16
A Burning Beginning - Page 18
That's... that's a lot of fire... and blood.
I'm sure she's fine.
Episode 17
A Burning Beginning - Page 19
So... Metordain seems like a nice guy...?
Episode 19
A Burning Beginning - Page 21
Brie is your overworked, terminally tired, friend, that is always there to help you work through your issues. She's there. But she has definitely had it.
Episode 20
A Burning Beginning - Page 22
Friends of Fiona is a strong term that few of the Fantasy Book Club would agree with.
Episode 21
A Burning Beginning - Page 23
The mysterious symbol says, no. Stahp. It vastly underestimates what Eremis will do for peace of mind.
Episode 22
A Burning Beginning - Page 24
For almost half my life I have been wanting to tell this story... And here I am with the first issue done and I don't know what to say.
Thank you for reading. It means so much to me that you are here.
Next week you will be getting a double update! On Wednesday I will post some between issue bonus content and Saturday Issue 2 will begin. I hope you're ready. <3
Episode 23
A Burning Beginning - BONUS
Issue 2 will begin updating on Saturday, but for a little extra bit of content for you to enjoy in the meantime: some details on all the characters you've met so far!
Episode 24
Dishonest Answers - Page 1
Issue 2 is here and Eremis is waking up to a far more uncertain reality than she is really prepared to deal with.
Episode 25
Dishonest Answers - Page 2
When an entire group of people thinks talking to you is dangerous... you might be Fiona.
Episode 26
Dishonest Answers - Page 3
Oh look it's Fiona! And she's totally fine. Don't let the bags under her eyes and shaking hands fool you. She's fine.
Episode 29
Dishonest Answers - Page 6
Yep, I definitely think that went well...
Episode 30
Dishonest Answers - Page 7
When you channel the words of a supernatural being and don't know what it was... there is nothing for it but to give it a nickname. So sound off in the comments: Brain Buddy or Prophecy Pal? Or... do you think you know who it actually was?
Episode 31
Dishonest Answers - Page 8
The bribe vs. gift debate continues...
Episode 33
Dishonest Answers - Page 10
Books are a pretty good bribe. Coffee also works.
Episode 34
Dishonest Answers - Page 11
Fiona incredulously sipping coffee is one of my favorite things I have drawn to date. It gives me joy. Also... Who exactly is interrogating who here?
Episode 35
Dishonest Answers - Page 12
Yup... totally fine. No problems here.
Episode 36
Dishonest Answers - Page 13
Someone waiting for Fiona in an alleyway... who could it be?
Episode 37
Dishonest Answers - Page 14
Eremis REALLY doesn't like not knowing what's going on and Fiona REALLY doesn't like being forced to do anything. Unstoppable force? Meet the immovable object.
Episode 39
Dishonest Answers - Page 16
Various levels of self-preservation on display here.
Episode 40
Dishonest Answers - Page 17
Huh... wonder why Fiona didn't want anyone to touch her.
Episode 42
Dishonest Answers - Page 19
I personally would need longer than two minutes for my denial, but I'll take what I can get.
Episode 43
Dishonest Answers - Page 20
It's raining cars. No time to ask politely!
Episode 44
Dishonest Answers - Page 21
My drawing hand was possessed by the spirit of memes... it couldn't be stopped.
Episode 47
Dishonest Answers - Page 24
And that, my friends, is the end of Issue 2. Next will be a bonus content episode and then Issue 3 will begin!
Episode 48
Dishonest Answers - BONUS
This bonus page ended up being a bit more text heavy than I was planning, but I find it really fun to look back on my old art and concepts and see how I've grown. I hope you all enjoyed it as well. Next: Issue 3 - Uncertain Sights
Episode 49
Uncertain Sights - Page 1
Blind Mom spirit is trying to be supportive... in her own way. I hope ya'll are ready for Issue 3. I'm so excited!
Episode 50
Uncertain Sights - Page 2
Brie went from ready to throw down to falling all over herself VERY quickly.
Episode 52
Uncertain Sights - Page 4
Brunch date... er, well with other people. More like a brunch meeting... That's fine.
Episode 53
Uncertain Sights - Page 5
Dr. Talwar has a *less than favorable* opinion of Fiona…
Episode 54
Uncertain Sights - Page 6
Thank you for the summary Izzie, let's take it again with a bit less attitude this time. No? Ok, I'll shut up now.
Episode 55
Uncertain Sights - Page 7
I would say Fiona is grumpy when she wakes up... but she's grumpy all the time.
Episode 56
Uncertain Sights - Page 8
She has a roundabout way of showing it, but Izzie just really doesn't want anyone to get hurt.
Episode 59
Uncertain Sights - Page 11
Fiona yelling at library guests is something that has come up before. More than once. Fortunately Ms. Morgan seems to be able to get Fiona to calm down better than most people.
Episode 60
Uncertain Sights - Page 12
Escort quests are hard when the person you're escorting really doesn't want you around. Drew should also learn to contain his copious note-taking habit.
Episode 61
Uncertain Sights - Page 13
It's a new day. Dark, grey and full of promise! Also, Quinn is back and they seem stressed...
Episode 63
Uncertain Sights - Page 15
Oof, this episode was a bit of a beast but I'm so happy with how it came out! Tristan is starting to feel a little overwhelmed. Can't say I blame him, it's certainly been quite a day so far and the next episode is a long-awaited conversation.
Episode 64
Uncertain Sights - Page 16
This conversation was a long time coming and very poorly timed... Would changing one decision over the past 6 years have made a difference or would they still have ended up at this moment? And where do they go from here?
Episode 65
Uncertain Sights - Page 17
Tristan in a nutshell: a wrench in Fiona's plans.
Episode 66
Uncertain Sights - Page 18
When the monsters call you a monster...
Episode 67
Uncertain Sights - Page 19
All possible options must be exhausted before Fiona will tell the truth. That is just the way of things.
Episode 68
Uncertain Sights - Page 20
Goodbye, cute little castle playground. You will be fondly remembered on the list of buildings Nae as designed only to burn down.
Episode 69
Uncertain Sights - Page 21
You heard her. She's got this. This certainly hasn't been a trainwreck and nothing worse is going to happen.
Episode 71
Uncertain Sights - Page 23
As soon as Tristan is off the board so is the very idea of communication...
Episode 72
Uncertain Sights - Page 24
And chapter 3 is done! Now that was an absolute beast to finish. I'm going to be taking a little bit of a break to build my buffer back up but I'll have more information on that and a few other announcements for you all next, so stay tuned!
Episode 73
Uncertain Sights - Bonus
This Q&A was so much fun to do! Thank you so much to everyone who asked questions and to all my wonderful readers. I'm so excited for Issue 4 to start in two weeks and I hope you are too. There will be one more special piece of content coming out on April 6th as well, so keep an eye out for that.
Episode 74
Consequences - Page 1
And we're back! Tristan has some lost time, a few major injuries... but he has retained his calm. Which is honestly pretty impressive.
Episode 75
Consequences - Page 2
Even being unable to breathe can't keep Fiona from finishing a rant...
Episode 76
Consequences - Page 3
She just has to get the last word before passing out... Fiona can't help herself.
Episode 77
Consequences - Page 4
Episodes with very little dialogue make me nervous. I really like how the art came out but I was a little uncertain if I could convey everything I wanted to with so little dialogue. I think I did ok. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Episode 78
Consequences - Page 5
Just a little bit of panic starting to set in there...
Episode 80
Consequences - Page 7
I want to give a quick shout-out to my very good friend, Eric. Working on this episode I was completely stuck. I hated everything I was doing and was falling behind on my schedule. He sat down with me and my Issue 4 script for hours. He got me to feel confident in what I was doing again. Thank you for always being there for me Eric... I really can't express how much your help has meant to me.
Episode 81
Consequences - Page 8
Nobody tells Fiona what to do... not even me.
Episode 82
Consequences - Page 9
I love an episode where Fiona genuinely smiles. Admittedly, this really only happens when she is messing with Tristan and even then her smiles tend to look the tiniest bit unhinged. But it makes me happy when she's happy.
Episode 83
Consequences - Page 10
That got all cute for like a second... Dang trust issues always lurking around to ruin a good moment.
Episode 86
Consequences - Page 13
It's a lot easier to trust someone with a secret they don't really agree with when you know they physically can't break the promise... I'm not saying it's healthy, just easy.
Episode 87
Consequences - Page 14
I may have gotten a tiny bit self-indulgent on this episode... I hope yall enjoy it. Also, in case it isn't clear, normally Fiona is 5'5"... in dragon form she gains a little over a foot if you include her horns.
Episode 88
Consequences - Page 15
I really LOVE how this episode turned out! It took a while since I had to draw a bunch of all new backgrounds (for almost half of this issue I've been able to mostly reuse the background assets I made at the beginning) but dang it was worth it. Hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Episode 90
Consequences - Page 17
Fiona can be so damn melodramatic and regardless of who's doing it, she doesn't like being told what to do.
Episode 91
Consequences - Page 18
Did anyone else miss the rest of the gang? Because I sure did! It's been so long and I missed drawing all my babies together...
Episode 93
Consequences - Page 20
I love a sunrise. Absolutely some of my favorite lighting to draw.
Episode 94
Consequences - Page 21
There are two things that will make an episode take forever to draw: 3+ characters in the scene and if I really like how the art turned out and spend a lot of time on it only for webtoon to compress it all to hell. This episode has both problems. What I'm saying is my buffer is gone and I finished this three hours ago. But I got it done! 3 episodes left in this chapter!
