George could very easily just have a very nice life with his sister if he was to clean up and trying to actually right his wrongs. but instead when he is met with the truth he tries to defend himself instead of actually fixing the root of the issue. irrelevy shows a lack of remorse for what he did. he killed his parents in a reckless drunk driving accident and still refers to it as an accident instead of being sober-minded and expressing that he basically murdered them. Valerie goes on to have this big speech about being there for Darcy and in the end George still reaffirms that the drugs and the alcohol are more important than anything else in his life. he wants to have a nice life but he also doesn't want to give up the thing that's preventing him from having that nice life.
