With the war over and no battlefields remaining, where do the sayabito belong? In order to manage these weapons, Kuifa and Rivia journey across the world to protect unregistered sayabito on behalf of the government organization, the Protettori. When rumor swirls around an aging horticulturist, the pair go knocking on his door. The girl who answers, however, is the spitting image of the man’s late daughter… Before long, Kuifa and Rivia learn that not all the sayabito they meet want to be saved, and some are even moved to take matters into their own hands.
A mix-up at a coffee bar sends Kuifa and Rivia on the run, but it seems Kuifa’s body is beginning to betray him. He comes down with a fever and is now immobilized, leaving Rivia to make decisions and face vicious creatures on her own. Alone for the first time in a long while, Rivia begins to question just how little she knows about Kuifa, about sayabito, about herself… As political unrest stirs back at Protettori headquarters, a mysterious sayabito finds work watching over a newborn boy—leading to a decades-long bond that will change the course of the man’s life forever.
After lazing about at Protettori headquarters, Rivia is sent to help stonemasons fix a long-neglected main road in town. As she navigates big personalities in the crew, she learns what it’s like to build something not only beautiful, but also integral to the community. However, when the police crash onto the scene, Rivia realizes she must act fast, with or without Kuifa. Later, at the capital’s renowned opera theater, a familiar man lurks through the halls with a cloaked figure in tow—a sayabito who’s been waiting to strike its predecessor…
Her recovery uncertain after a brutal battle, Rivia’s thoughts wander to when she awakened long ago. In the dreary underground halls she’s confined to, Rivia learns a grim truth—that she’s to be a mindless puppet meant to further her addo’s ambitions. But by the time his scheme falls apart, Rivia is utterly broken—tormented by the voices of those she was forced to kill. Before she can begin her journey of healing, her new companion Kuifa must help her back on her feet.
A date with May turns deadly when Rivia is suddenly cornered by the enemy and given a choice—to return to her former addo or die. And ignorant of the danger they’re in, Kito and Swito take in a stranger they find out in the bitter cold. Their acts of kindness help the sayabito recover, but can they warm his heart enough to quell the killer voices in his head?
