It's the height of the cold war, and tomboy-ish farm girl Alyssa is turning 18. On her birthday she discovers that her heritage is not what she has believed it to be for the past 14 years and her intrigue will lead Alyssa, along with her curmudgeonly adopted father Arthur and mysterious family friend Pip, into the heart of the treacherous iron curtain where danger lurks around every corner.
