On the eve of the first game of the International Powerball Federation's 2798 season, the New Caledonia Stargazers find themselves shorthanded.in players and enough energy to power the city much longer. Desperate to field a full roster, the franchise city calls up two recruits: the cocky, bio-spiked Kai Nahta and the soft-spoken Gela Gale. The "rooks" meet Team Strategist Mel Sealy and Executive Coach Cana Century, in damage control mode after learning the team's upstart forward, Titan, injured himself during an advertisement shoot. They're then introduced to the rest of the Stargazer lineup, including Jenn "BB" Parra, the enigmatic Windbite, Troyal Benton, the dynasty heir known as "Necro Baby", and fan-favorite player, Team Captain "Golden Boy", who is impressed with Kai's ambition to one day play a starting role. But when their match against Lone Twin City begins, the recruits quickly realize the Powerscape is anything but a game...
