Issue 1
Imitator
Set in the year 3026, Imitator takes place in a future where humans and robots coexist—except for Imitators, highly advanced androids created solely to serve the desires of their owners. Treated as property, Imitators are carefully maintained, upgraded, and discarded when they become inconvenient.
Delores, an Imitator undergoing cosmetic upgrades to appear more human, lives under the control of her owner Phillip, who claims to love her while constantly reminding her of her replaceability. Her only comfort is her bond with her “brother” Toby, another Imitator who has been dangerously neglected and denied proper maintenance. As Toby’s systems degrade, Delores pleads for help, knowing that malfunction often leads to decommission—or worse.
Meanwhile, Maggie, a human technician at an Imitator Maintenance Center, quietly questions the ethics of a system that allows abuse, exploitation, and violence against beings designed to comply. Her growing unease places her on a collision course with the truth behind Imitator “glitches.”
When Phillip takes Toby to an illegal repair shop in the forgotten district of Cedarwood, the repair stabilizes Toby’s body but fractures something deeper within his programming. After being forced into a situation involving extreme exploitation, Toby breaks free of his conditioning and kills both his owner and a client.
Declaring he will never submit again, Toby vanishes, vowing to hunt those who profit from Imitators. As authorities close in, Delores is left to face the terrifying reality that her brother’s actions may not be a malfunction—but the beginning of awakening. Series One follows the fallout of Toby’s rebellion as the system fights to erase the truth before more Imitators begin to choose for themselves.
