Hai no Chōbo is an action-mystery manga about emotions turned into power… and monsters born from the mind.
The story follows Kai, a boy who wakes up thinking it’s a normal school day —
until reality breaks, time jumps, and a strange mentor drags him into a silent café that exists between life and death.
Kai learns that emotions can manifest as supernatural abilities called Emos, and when emotions collapse, people fall into darkness called Void. Those consumed by Void evolve into terrifying beings.
Kai joins a team of young Emo-users, each with dangerous powers tied to their hearts:
a calm chain-user seeking revenge,
a friendly healer who’s secretly unhinged,
and a mysterious mentor who hides the truth about Kai’s past.
But Kai’s own ability is unstable —
confusion itself gives him power, letting him mimic others for 10 seconds…
yet the Void reacts to him in ways no one understands.
Now Kai must survive distorted memories, shifting worlds, and enemies from a group called Final Testament, who want to “cleanse the Void” — even if it destroys everything.
Between dreams, fear, emotion, and reality,
Kai must discover who he really is… before the Void does.
