He uncovers the true villain, Aethel, the brothers' estranged uncle and creator of all dark power. Aethel reveals his motive: revenge for Jack killing his son. This unleashes Aethel's other son, William, seeking revenge on Jack. Meptor reveals an ancient family betrayal, explaining Aethel's dark turn and the source of the conflict.
