EMERALD — ISSUE #7: “PRESSURE”
Synopsis
Leigh Robertson has spent months proving she can use her power responsibly.
Unfortunately, responsibility isn’t what scares governments.
Uncertainty does.
After dismantling an international trafficking operation and becoming a growing public symbol of hope, Emerald attracts attention from a new enemy—not criminals, but institutions.
Across Crown City, news outlets debate her existence.
Hero.
Vigilante.
Threat.
No one can agree.
Meanwhile, deep inside federal intelligence circles, officials begin compiling a comprehensive file on Emerald. Her powers, origins, allies, and movements are analyzed. Every rescue raises the same question:
What happens if she stops listening?
As surveillance tightens around her, Leigh begins noticing cameras, drones, and agents tracking her daily life. For the first time since her transformation, she realizes she isn’t being watched by people she protects—
She’s being watched by people preparing for the day they might have to stop her.
Rebel immediately recognizes the signs. This isn’t curiosity.
It’s profiling.
It’s preparation.
And it’s only the beginning.
When federal authorities formally request that Leigh submit to government evaluation, she refuses. Not out of rebellion—but because she understands something they don’t.
Power doesn’t belong to governments.
And neither does she.
