On the planet its people call Earth, and the rest of the universe calls it Blue Waters, there is a second world that no one can see.
In Nzara, a market town in the country of Blanch, Grace sells tomatoes while her son Leo sits barefoot beside her. Money is thin, the future is thinner, and the neighbors argue over whether to stay or go. Grace has decided: next month, they leave for The New Africa.
Sent home to fetch water, Leo opens a ragged tear in the air, humming with blue light. He steps through.
On the other side is Planet Perfect, a world of lavender cliffs, crystal shores and floating islands, and it knows him by another name: Muun. Leo is a Muumbra who chose to be born human, and the longer he lives as a boy, the harder it is to remember why. Grand Mother, the first of her people, offers comfort, a warning that the portal will not answer him forever, and the story of how their world began.
When Leo returns to Blanch, the home he left is no longer the one he comes back to.
