Regarding the fauna - I had this idea of primitive people riding giant capybaras into battle. But, obviously since it's an alien world, capybaras turned purple - same color as some bushes may I point out. This way it becomes likely that these calm herbivorous creatures have evolved to hide from predators among those purple bushes. Also, species name Khimsha is derived from words “khinzir mishear” which loosely means “hairy pig” in Arabic.
Birds that are hunted by Lyandra are called Sariqal which means "Fruit Stealer". They were conceived as simple "alien bird with lizard traits" concept. I included them to show how morals of Lyandra differ from our modern understanding about animal cruelty - she hunts them for sport.

Speaking about this particular story - I have written it as a novel (4-6 issues) with a complex backstory that would be gradually revealed to the reader and twist everything upside down. The whole second issue was readily pre-visualised. It would revolve around Lyandra coming back to Kraz and trying to figure out who poisoned her royal family, and who she can still trust...
And that part was PACKED with tension, but narrative transition from the city walls to the ancient mountain of Zul felt like a slog. Plus, some characters, who I grew to love did not get enough development space. And the third act... It was OK, but also felt like wasted potential. Kind of. So I put this particular story on ice, until I'll completely rewrite the whole second half of it. As of now, I have produced plenty of notes, so the reworked Rite of Passage slowly grows into an amazing part of the overarching space saga. The release date is still TBA, because production of ELZA: BOOK 1 is my #1 priority at the moment.
