After The Robot Apocalypse #3
182 Comics

Set 57 years after a mysterious Robot invasion that resulted in the end of the world as we know it. Most of the population of the world has been wiped out, everything has changed but how do those left behind survive…We pick up after the events of issue 1 and learn a great deal more about the world and those that are left after the robot….apocalypse..

Thoughts….

What a great third issue, this really kicks things up a notch. With the first two issues getting the set up and the characters established it really gives this issue the chance to flex its action muscles. This issue gives us that in spades, after a brief mission brief we get thrown into a full on action packed, guns blazing, chainsaw buzzing adventure.

We do get a fair bit more information about the world and how things have got to where they are, and see a bit more the world around Home. The story we are getting here is really great, some interesting origin points are explored here all leading to more questions. But those questions will have to wait until the dust settles as we are soon thrown into a melee of explosive consequence.

As always the artwork throughout is spot on, definitely a very unique style and approach but so awesome. The design work for the characters, especially the less human ones, is great, who wouldn’t want a milk carton with a chainsaw on their side in a fire fight…

This issue is awesome, it really cranks everything up to 1000 by the end, there is definitely a sense of danger for the characters here as you just don’t know who will come out the other side and to say the issue ends on a cliffhanger…well you will see when you get to read it. Another great offering from Keith both from the writing side and the art, an easy 8 out 10 for me, go pledge while the kickstarter is still going as there is still time…

After The Robot Apocalypse #2

What can I say about issue 2?.... Well… it's a great follow up to the first issue. This will be spoiler free so don’t worry. The setting is really expanded here, there is so much more going on than the first issue gave us, this is not your normal post apocalyptic world at all. Anyone that has read the first issue will know where that left off, and if you haven’t read it go get it. Not only do we learn more about “that situation” but a lot more about the overarching setting. What happened, where did they come from, whose fault was it, all the questions you want the answer to are right here but as always there are more questions that crop up as well.

A lot of work has gone into designing the characters both human and other, and there are some great new characters thrown into the mix as well, some really took me by surprise for sure. That same artistic styling is here from the first issue which I really like as it is refined and unique, making the whole thing just pop.

The humour is also there from the first issue and the little easter eggs are present as you look over the panels. There is an advert for Stinky Pickles Breakfast Bar, as another coming soon title like Fancy rock from issue 1, these advert pages would make really cool posters, if Keith needed a side hustle.

It's alway hard to do reviews without giving too much away but fans of the first series will really enjoy this 2nd outing as it gives a broader understanding of what has come before and sets up nicely what is to come ongoing. I’d give the 8 out of 10 as I did the first issue and I really can’t wait to see where we are being taken with this series

The first page really struck me as soon as I first saw it. I liked the attention to detail and the way the foreground and background had a visual difference in the shading and the little easter egg style drops of the 182 and the SP logo, these extra little details continued throughout the book and added something extra to the reading enjoyment. The comics visuals are very strong, you can tell this was created by an artist that has their own style and they are comfortable working within it. I liked the panel layout; it had a bold edge to it that really made them stand out against thicker than usual white borders. The issue is bold and bright and uniquely stylised, even the speech bubbles have their own little style choices for each character.

I liked the setting for the series, post apocalyptic is always a story style that piques my interest. When I asked Keith if I could review the issue having seen the new Kickstarter campaign he described the issue as an opening scene to a movie. like BLAM!! straight in, and this issue definitely lives up to that. We get the introduction to the world and our main characters. There is plenty of action throughout this issue to get your heart racing and more than a little danger to our protagonist's lives. The issue ends in a place that leaves things open for so many possibilities and was not all where I thought it was heading at all.

I liked this first issue, it's a solid start and a great first entry into the comic book world. I liked that throughout the issue there were adverts for upcoming titles my favourite being Fancy Rock, these added to the humour of the whole thing. This has a very homegrown UK based feel to the tone of the writing and style, this “genre” of comic seems to be getting more of a viewing these days and deservingly so. A lot of work has gone into this issue and you can tell that, for that I would give it 8 out of 10, and congratulate Keith on a job well done and a lot of good luck for issue 2 and beyond.
